Tourist attractions in San Marino: between history and panorama

After shopping, it's time to immerse yourself in the rich, millennial history and culture of our country. The small city perched on Mount Titano is a true treasure trove of architectural gems and breathtaking panorama.

The three towers of San Marino

The unmistakable emblem of San Marino is situated on the top of Monte Titano: the Three Towers. The Guaita Tower, the oldest, dates back to the 11th century and offers a spectacular view over the valley below. Access is permitted, and you can visit inside, as well as the Cesta Tower. This majestic and imposing fortress still preserves the prison cells, while the Montale Tower, or third tower, is not open to the public.

The Towers are less than a 5-minute walk from our store!

The historic center and basilica of San Marino

Descending from the First Tower, you will immerse yourself in the beating heart of San Marino, the historic center declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. A labyrinth of stone streets and lively squares with shops, cafes and typical restaurants. We definitely recommend visiting the Basilica of San Marino, a jewel of Romanesque-Gothic architecture decorated with splendid frescoes.

The Basilica is a few minutes' walk from our store; just continue along Contrada dei Magazzeni, and you will find yourself in front of the stone columns of San Marino.

Right on the Basilica, you will find the inscription declaring the "freedom" of our Republic: "Relinquo vos liberos ab utroque homine," which translates as "I leave you free from both men," implying the figures of the Pope and the Emperor. These words are attributed to Saint Marino himself.

How to get to San Marino: Travel Tips

San Marino is easily accessible from many cities in Emilia Romagna and Marche, both by public transportation and by car.

By bus from Rimini

If you're starting from Rimini, one of the most convenient options is to take the bus line that connects the city to the upper part of San Marino. You'll need to ask for a ticket to "San Marino Città". With frequent services, in just over an hour you'll be right at your destination, without the stress of driving or looking for parking.

By car

For those who prefer to travel by their own car, San Marino is easily accessible by following the signs for the historic center. Once you arrive, you can leave your car in one of the large parking lots located just outside the walls, such as the P9 parking lot or the closer P6 and P7. From there, you can easily reach the center on foot.

By train

Another option is to take the train to the Rimini station and continue by bus or taxi to the center of San Marino. This solution may be more economical than renting a car, but a bit more inconvenient for getting around during your visit.

Whatever mode of transport you choose, I advise you to leave with plenty of time to fully enjoy the day without stress. San Marino deserves to be experienced ideally "from dawn to dusk". The sunset is one of the most magical moments you'll remember from your visit, as the sun sets over Val Marecchia and the center lights up in shades of red and orange.
